BUGFEST

Following previous insect drawing and photo sessions at the BRLSI and Natural History Museum, I recently took my son and his friend to Bugfest near Yeovil.  Not only were there staggering varieties of mantis, crickets, tarantulas, stick insects (one with red chinese/fan wings) and snails, but also some live cocoons!  Having been looking for real cocoons to draw for ages, I was in my element, and decided to buy one to study.  It is beautiful.  I’m awaiting the emergence of a Tusseh Indian Silkmoth.  Perhaps, with Spring officially starting tomorrow, it won’t be much longer….  My son also now has an African snail to look after!

The etchings I’m doing with Bronwyn Bradshaw at Dove Studios, Butleigh are going well – I accidentally did a drypoint the other day, but happy with the results! (see below)

Wire Workshop – Bridgwater Arts Centre meets Mind

I had a great day running a wire workshop taster session earlier this week with some lovely people at Bridgwater Arts Centre.  They all seemed to enjoy their day and produced fabulous work.  It will be shown at Bridgwater Arts Centre, along with other work they complete with artists from different disciplines.  The Arts Centre (oldest in the country) is set to have a long-awaited facelift – providing the Council doesn’t cut its grant.

Below are some samples of the wire workshop/pieces:
