This collage led to a large sculpture: Hope of a Tree, created for a travelling art project Inch by IN:CH, which toured around south west UK, engaging the public with events in 2021.

From constriction to regeneration, broken umbrella structures playfully suggest branching tree forms, rising up beyond the grid. Hand sewn patches of textiles and plastic offer shelter, though precarious.

The work was inspired by The Overstory, a book by Richard Powers. ‘..there is hope of a tree, if it goes down, that it will sprout again..’

The final sculpture was contained in a trunk, and extended out at each location.
