Sculptural Drawing: Traces
Sculptural Drawing: Traces
Handmade khadi paper, copper wire, rabbit skin glue, linseed oil
143 x 116 x 12cms
2017
3d drawing inspired by whelk egg sacs found on the seashore in Dorset. The drawing takes line from 2d to 3d, ‘situated between image and object’ (Fer, 2004)
Drawing over drawing with wire, some marks recede, others recovered, ‘expanding into and out of form’ (Luzar). It relates to an essence of becoming, emergence, beginnings of life, embodiments, ephemerality, mutability, bodily forms that oscillate, skin over amorphous shapes.
The lighting and placement are important for its positioning. Best suspended in area with light coming through. Hangs by copper wires.

This piece blurs boundaries between drawing and sculpture - a drawing in space. Inspired by whelk egg sacs, the drawing takes line from 2d to 3d, ‘between image and object’ (Fer, 2004). Its edges extend outwards by finely woven copper wire grids. Drawing over drawing with wire, some marks recede, others are recovered, expanding into and out of form. The work is in a state of becoming, emergence, mutability; bodily forms oscillate. The combination of handmade paper, rabbit skin glue and oil suggests a skin over amorphous shapes.
